become part of the cure!
Welcome to Noah Halek Strong.
On November 26, 2019 our son, Noah, was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
Originally, this page was created so that medical updates can be shared as Noah fights this battle surrounded by everyone that loves him.
Today, it is our mission to work with other foundations in a collaborative effort aimed at improving the standard of care and outcome of pediatric cancer. From providing guidance and support for families to funding research and development, we will continue fighting the DIPG monster and other forms of pediatric cancer in honor of our warrior Noah.
What is DIPG? Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma is a brain tumor found in a part of the brain stem called the pons. The pons controls essential bodily functions such as heartbeat, breathing, swallowing, eye movement, eyesight, and balance. The majority of brain stem tumors occur in the pons and are diffusely infiltrating (they grow amidst the nerves) and therefore, cannot be surgically removed.
DIPG affects children almost exclusively. Approximately 200-400 children in the United States are diagnosed with DIPG each year. These children are typically between the ages of 4 and 11. DIPG accounts for roughly 10-15% of all brain tumors in children.
A child diagnosed with DIPG today faces the same prognosis as a child diagnosed 60 years ago. There is still no effective treatment and no chance of survival. Only 10% of children with DIPG survive for 2 years following their diagnosis, and less than 1% survive for 5 years.
Our mission is to create awareness of what DIPG is and to provide guidance and support to families that are battling this evil monster. We want to beat the odds with your help and to give these amazing kiddos the best opportunity to find their miracle! We need all the help and prayers we can possibly get. Let us all, through prayer and combined efforts, become the support to these amazing children like Noah as they face the fight for their lives.
